1More’s ComfoBuds Pro look like a very appealing pair of true wireless earbuds with their active noise cancelling functionality as they manage to undercut much of the true wireless active noise cancelling earbud market, costing only £89 at the time of this review.
The 1More ComfoBuds Pro are available in black and white colour choices, for this review I’ve been using the white version of the earbuds which has a nice matte finish to it. I also quite like the very subtle use of red in the grilles around the earbud, this is a nod to 1More’s brand colour, but I quite like how it adds a tiny splash of colour to an otherwise very plain looking pair of earbuds.
The earbuds have a lightweight plastic construction and stem design which is easy to wear and provides a comfortable fit for long listening sessions. I like how the design of these earbuds flows nicely from top to bottom, the tapered design of the stem gives the earbuds a streamlined design and doesn’t make them look chunky when you’re wearing them.
The outer side of the earbuds features touch controls located beneath the 1More logo which, by default, are used to toggle between some of the featured modes, toggle play/pause and activate voice control. If you download the 1More Music app, you can tweak these functions so you can control the listening volume directly from the earbuds, it is a shame that this isn’t a default setting but it’s good to see it can be tweaked.
The underside of the earbuds is home to the charging pins, which are used in conjunction with the charging case, as well as the ear detection sensors which are used to automatically play and pause what you’re listening to when you put the earbuds in and take them out of your ears – it is nice to see this feature on some more price-friendly earbuds as it makes the user experience just that little bit nicer.
The earbuds feature a rubber-tip design which I found to be very nice to use. Unlike some other earbuds, I didn’t find myself needing to push in the earbuds that much to get a good fit, making them comfortable to wear and you end up forgetting that you’ve even got earbuds in your ears (in a good way). 1More does include a few additional sizes of rubber ear tips in the box in-case the set fitted out of the factory aren’t quite right.
Overall, I’m very happy with the design and fit of these earbuds as they’re comfortable to wear and look minimal – although I’m not too sure on the cursive font for the left and right indicators.
The ComfoBuds Pro are stored in an oval-shaped charging case when not in use. The charging case shares the same matte white plastic build as the earbuds and features some silver plastic for the hinge on the back as well as a red USB Type-C port (nice touch).
The hinge is a little flimsy and doesn’t lock into place unfortunately, so I have found that it can be quite prone to closing itself when you’re trying to access the earbuds and inside of the case. The earbuds sit flat in the case and the inside of the case also features a pairing button.
The ComfoBuds Pro feature 13.4mm dynamic drivers which provide a fairly balanced listening experience across the low, mid and high frequencies – providing a good overall sound for the price point of the earbuds. The bass is deep and the stereo separation between both earbuds is also good, providing an immersive experience. Mid frequencies sound clear as do the highs.
The earbuds still hold up well when listening to different genres. There are no signs of sibilance, but I do wish that there was a little more clarity on the high end for vocals as they do sound a little held back in comparison to the low end just to give the sound an extra ounce of brightness.
Unfortunately, 1More’s companion app doesn’t feature any EQ adjustment, so what you buy is what you get and any EQ adjustments you do wish to make will have to be done in your music streaming app of choice. However, let’s not dwell on that, the earbuds pack a punch and offer a good amount of volume to accommodate a comfortable listening volume for you. I found myself mostly listening at around 40-50% volume.
Overall, I’m very happy with how these earbuds perform as they provide a decent listening experience for a range of different music genres – especially considering that they also pack in active noise cancelling.
The ComfoBuds Pro feature 6 microphones dotted around the earbuds which assist with ANC and when it comes to making phone calls using the earbuds. The quality of the microphones is very good and they managed to pick up my voice to a good volume, you should have no problems making a phone call with these earbuds – the person on the other end of the line should be able to hear you loud and clear.
The earbuds feature a mixture of active noise cancelling and transparency listening modes, by default you can toggle between the normal, strong ANC and transparency modes using the touch controls on the earbuds, but if you wish to access the mild and wind noise resistance modes, you’ll have to open up the 1More app on your mobile device to make use of those or to assign those modes to the function buttons.
For the price that these earbuds come in at, their ANC performance is very good, and they worked well at cutting out noise around me, although like many true wireless earbuds some higher-pitched sounds still do make their way through. The ANC works great against constant machine noise such as fans, but I also found them to work well against ambient noise outdoors as well as speech. The transparency mode on the earbuds also works well and does a good job at passing through the sound around me, although there is a slight amount of audible white noise when this mode is turned on.
The earbuds feature Bluetooth 5.0 as well as support for the AAC audio codec, which should provide a slightly better listening experience on supported devices. The earbuds also feature an IPX4 water resistance rating so you can wear them whilst exercising without any worries. Unrelated to features, but on the topic of additions with the earbuds, there is a soft carrying pouch included within the box so you can store the earbuds, charging cable and additional ear tip sizes in one place.
It’s well worth downloading the 1More Music app to your device as it will allow you to move between the different listening modes as well as allow you to tweak earbud settings such as the button controls and auto play/pause functionality. Unfortunately, there’s no EQ options to adjust the sound profile, so it would be nice to see that added to the app in the future.
The earbuds feature 6 hours of listening with ANC turned on, which can be extended by an additional 14 hours to give you up to 20 hours of total listening time before needing to charge the charging case. If you choose to forfeit ANC, you can listen for a little longer – 8 hours which is extended by up to 20 additional hours by the charging case.
When it comes to charging, it’ll take around 2 hours to fully charge the charging case using the USB Type-C charging port on the back of the charging case and 1 hour to charge up the earbuds. Luckily, the earbuds themselves do have fast charging so 15 minutes of charging will give you an extra 2 hours listening time, this is great if you need to get a bit of extra battery life in a hurry,
If you’re looking for a pair of active noise cancelling earbuds with a more affordable price tag, the 1More ComfoBuds Pro are a fantastic choice. I found their ANC performance to be excellent at cutting out the noise around me and they sound good whilst doing it. I would like to see EQ customisation make its way to the 1More Sound app to offer further customisability with the earbuds, but that’s a small downside for the other features such as fast charging and high quality microphones.
The 1More ComfoBuds Pro active noise cancelling true wireless earbuds with active noise cancelling are available to purchase on Amazon.
