The design of the speaker has been suited for outdoor use, but it still looks nice and sleek. The speaker itself is mostly made from plastic, with metal grills on both the front and back. The speaker does have a rugged looking appearance with prominent edges and sides to the speaker, as well as some ridges on the sides of the speaker grill.

On the top, there are five function buttons, which will allow you to do your various standard functions such as navigating tracks, volume level adjustments as well as allowing you to change your playback source.

On the front, you have the main speaker grill itself with the Sensport logo on it. You’ll also find the two drivers for the speaker behind the metal grill. There is also a small indicator light underneath the metal grill, specifically underneath the top ridge.

This speaker also has a passive subwoofer which can be found behind the rear metal grill to help enhance the lower frequencies and bass from the speaker, but I shall be talking about sound quality in a moment.

On the sides, there is a carabiner which you could use to clip the speaker to a bag so you could use it whilst walking outdoors. On the opposite side, you can find ports and I/O. There is a micro-USB port for charging and also an AUX-in port if you don’t want to use Bluetooth to listen to music.

This speaker also has a micro-SD card slot if you want to take a second device out of the equation completely, this can allow you to play music without the need for any other device such as a phone or music player. These ports on the side have a rubber cover that seals the ports to stop water from entering them as this speaker is IPX7 waterproof, which makes it great for outdoor use.

There are also some grippy rubber feet on the bottom so the speaker doesn’t slip around, but make sure to peel off the plastic cover for them, or it will be very easy to push or knock over!

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the Rave Model 1 is very good. Considering the size of the speaker compared to others, this still manages to pack a punch in a compact and lightweight form-factor.

The two 45mm drivers on the front sound very clear with good reproduction of vocals and treble frequencies. They also get very loud if you need them to. The individual drivers are 8 Watts each, which is fairly normal for decent sounding Bluetooth speakers.

There’s also a passive subwoofer on the back of the speaker that makes this speaker sound fantastic. Bass is punchy, but not overwhelming. I was quite surprised to see such good bass reproduction from such a compact speaker, as this speaker is not thick at all.

Features & Accessories

The speaker is great for outdoor use as it features a shock-absorbing design and also it has IPX7 waterproofing. This is great if you want to listen to some music on a walk or hike – or even a pool party.

The speaker also has the choice to play audio from a micro-SD card if you’d like to, in addition to playback with an AUX cable and Bluetooth. So, if you want to ditch the wires and wireless completely, you can. The speaker supports up to a 32GB card, and supports MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE file formats.

Battery Life

The battery life on the Rave Model 1 is very good, if you have the volume set to around 60% you’ll get up to 24 hours of play time. But if you max out the volume all the way to 100% the play time will drop drastically to 4 hours.

This speaker does get very loud so it is unlikely it would be all the way at 100%, so you should get a decent amount of battery life from it when you want to listen to music.

When it comes to charging, it’ll take around 5 hours to fully charge up the speaker again. It would be nicer if this charging time was a bit faster, but it’s not a huge problem.

So overall, I would highly recommend this speaker if you’re looking for a compact Bluetooth speaker that will survive most environments and one that you don’t have to worry too much about treating nicely, this is a great choice – plus it sounds good too.
